
Magh Purnima is an important day and it falls on the “Purnima” (full Moon day) in the month of ‘Magha’. This day roughly corresponds to the months of January- February in the Gregorian Calender. Magh Purnima is also known as ‘Maghi Purnima’. Magh Purnima is being observed on 31st January 2018. It is the last important day of Magha maas (month). It is one of the most auspicious day. During this month, the famous ‘Kumbh Mela’ and Magha Mela are held in which devotees flock from every corner of the country and the world. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and gaiety. On the day of Magh Purnima, devotees get up early in the morning and take a holy dip in water bodies or Holy Rivers (Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Narmada etc). According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu resides in the Holy river Ganga and therefore it is strongly believed that by merely touching the holy water of river Ganga, devotees can attain salvation.
